Chuck Swanson

Chuck Swanson is an artist living and working in the Louisville area for over thirty years. He opened Swanson Contemporary Gallery in on East Market Street area now known as NuLu. His gallery was one of only five functioning businesses east of Hancock Street when it opened in 1998. 

Swanson is known for his paintings and sculptures. Swanson creates assembled paintings and works on paper, shaped and color directed, often informed by local/regional water and landscapes.

He is represented in dozens of corporate and private collections including Ventas Headquarters Chicago and Louisville, Atria, Brown Forman, Waterfront Park Place, The Presbyterian Seminary, The Fund for the Arts, LGE, Old National Bank, Stites and Harbison, UPS, Bellarmine University and many more. He has exhibited numerous times throughout the region and in the northeast United States. 

In 2025, Swanson was the recipient of Louisville Visual Art’s prestigious Legacy Award for his work as an artist, gallery owner, and contributions to the Louisville art community.
